Through their pollination performance in our food chain, honey bees are the third most important domestic animals. Domestic animals in the sense that honey bees today can no longer survive without the care of beekeepers. The image of the bee colony living in tree cavities and sometimes being disturbed by bears is a tale from long bygone times. Since the 1970s, all honey bees in Europe have been infested with a parasite, the Varroa mite, which would cause the colonies to die if beekeepers did not regularly control the mites.
We have dedicated ourselves to this task of caring for and preserving the native honey bees.
